Lifestyle Desk: China is on the brink of limiting children’s exposure to the internet. On Wednesday, 2 August, the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) – which is the official cyber regulator of China – stated that individuals under the age of 16 to 18 would be allowed to use internet for only two hours.
It has also instructed the smartphone device providers to inculcate a minor mode programme which would prevent users from consuming the internet 10PM to 6AM.
It has also announced that only two hours a day would be allowed to users of 16-to 18 years old. From 8 to 16 years old, one hour would be permitted. Alternatively, only 8 minutes would be permitted for under 8 years old.
Enlisting such timings from different age groups might be helpful in limiting children’s dependence and addition to internet and online based games. However, this might also thwart individual right on independent decision on their use of this technology for various reasons like education and entertainment.
