Art Desk: If you watched the coronation ceremony of King Charles III and simultaneously if you are also a football fan, you must have been little surprised to hear the UEFA Champions League football anthem played during the occasion.

On Sunday, His Majesty the King was officially crowned after the death of his mother and the late Queen. During the ceremony, the Champions League theme music was one of the many musical pieces performed as the event unfolded.

The name of the musical piece is ‘Zodak the Priest’. According to a Daily Mirror report, although it is also played during the Champions League matches, it is actually linked to the British Royalty since a long time.

The report also mentions that the Champions League version is actually the amended version of the musical piece which was introduced in the competition in 1992.

Furthermore, its tie to the royal family is dated back to 1727, after it was composed before the coronation of King George II. It is being performed in every coronation ceremony since then.
