Global Desk: Not in the economy, India has overtaken China to become the most populated nation on earth. India has a population of around 1,425,775,850 at present.
According to a recent report from United Nations, China has dropped to the second place in terms of his population for the first time since 1950, marking the biggest demographical shift since the official records had first begun.
China’s one-child policy introduced in the 1980’s has been viewed as one of the key factors contributing to this decline. It is however not active at present as Chinese women are being allowed to give birth to more than one child.
Correspondingly, over the years, India’s uncontrollable birth rates, especially among certain communities has been one of the major reasons for India’s population explosion.
Even though India is a one of the fastest growing economies, how the excess presence of young working population can further speed up the growth is yet to be seen. However, more than good, the rising population is bound to generate more economic problems for the country which is already struggling with unemployment and poverty.
