Girls with golden fists! India win 4 golds at Boxing World Championship

Sports Desk: Indian boxers Lovlina Borgohain and Nikhat Zareen have grabbed the world champion titles in the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships.

Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain outclassed Australian Caitlin Parker 3-2 to claim her first ever word championship gold after recently moving from 69 kg weight category to 75 kg.

Her victory was celebrated with much jubilation in her home state Assam.

By thanking her parents and well-wishers through a social media post, Borgohain said that she was extremely happy to win her third medal at the world championships and convert her earlier bronze medals in to a gold.

Meanwhile, Nikhat Zareen defeated Vietnam’s Nguyen Thi Tam 5-0 to clinch her second gold medal at the championships in the 50 kg category.

Following her feat Zareen said that she was “ecstatic, humbled and grateful”. In a social media post she also said that she would like to dedicate the medal to the nation and thanked her well wishers for the support.

In addition to Borgohain and Zareen, Indian boxers Nitu Ghanghas and Saweety Boora also won golds in the 48 kg and 81 kg weight categories respectively.

With these four medals, India have finished first in the medals tally ahead of China, Russian Federation, and Italy.

People from across fields including Prime Minister Narendra thanked the players for their achievements.
