Environment Desk: The global CO2 emission reached record high in 2022. According to a report by Global Carbon Project the carbon emissions touched a record high of 36.6 billion tonnes this past year.

The main reason suggested behind this has been the rise in fuel emissions which mainly happened from vehicles and travel as the world moved ahead of the pandemic.

It also said that it has led to an 0.8 per cent rise in CO2 gases, although it remined below the highs set in 2019 and comparatively flat since 2015.

Additionally, as per the 17th edition of the Global Carbon Project, the increase in greenhouse gases like CO2 was steered by the emissions from different regions. It stated the India and rest-of-the-world largely contributed to these emissions compared to a small increase from the United States.

It also said the European Union remained stable in this respect. Likewise, a minor decrease also came from China which has generally been known to be one of the major contributors of greenhouse gases.
