Saudi Arabia to promote yoga in universities

Global Desk: Saudi Arabia is set to introduce yoga as a curriculum in its universities very soon.

According to a report by Arab News the Saudi Yoga Committee has stated that in the coming months it will sign agreements with major universities in the state for the inclusion and promotion of this ancient Indian practice.

The announcement was made during a recently held conference titled “The role of University sports in supporting the Kingdom’s vision to sports,” which was jointly organized by the Education Ministry and the Saudi Universities Sports Association.

Nouf Al-Marwaai, the president of the committee stated that it wants to promote yoga in the universities due to its physical and mental health benefits.

Besides, it also wants to enhance people’s participation in sports to achieve sporting excellence both internationally and locally and fulfil its national Vision 2030.

She also said that yoga “includes Asana posture practice, Pranayamas breathing techniques, Bandhas muscle control, then comes Dhayan and Yoga Nidra meditation and relaxation.”

Further, she also added that the committee also discover and groom talents on yoga and support them to represent the Kingdom internationally and locally.
