Djokovic equals Nadal’s record of 22 grand slams
Sports Desk: Novak Djokovic has won the Australian Open title and equalled rival Rafael Nadal’s record of 22 grand slam titles.
On Sunday 29th January, the Siberian world number 2 defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets 6-3 7-6 7-6 to extend his grand slam titles to 22.
Earlier last year, 35-year-old Djokovic was barred from participating in the Australian Open after its government deported him for failing to take Covid vaccine.
Following the victory Djokovic stated that it was a very challenging tournaments for him after being absent last year.
In his victory speech he thanked his fans for the support on behalf of him and his staff and family.
“I appreciate the patience and love you are giving me,” he said.
