India: The results of the recently held municipality polls of India’s capital city New Delhi were declared by the State Election Commission on Wednesday, 7 November 2022. The Aam Admi Party (AAP) have won the highest majority and ended the 15-year rule of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP).

According to the recent updates, the AAP have won 132 seats, while BJP have bagged 104 seats. Meanwhile, Congress could manage to resister wins in only nine wards. In order to rule the corporation a side needs to win at least 126 out of 250 seats.

The AAP have gained many seats compared to their performance in 2017 where they grabbed 48 seats only. Conversely, BJP have lost more than 50 seats after winning 181 seats in 2017.

Following the victory, Delhi Chief Minister, and AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal thanked the people of the city and congratulated the members of his party through his social media accounts. He also said that as the result is out now everyone should work on making Delhi a clean and beautiful city.

This outcome can be regarded historical for Kejriwal and AAP. It is not just a verdict on AAP’s performance in the city and the voters’ trust on Kejriwal, but it has given them a huge boost for the upcoming elections in other states. Besides, it will also strengthen their present role as a key opposition to the ruling BJP and an alternative to the obsolete Indian National Congress.
