Fans can’t wear sleeveless or expose legs in FIFA World Cup as Qatar asks visitors to obey its conservative dress code & avoid too much skin

Sports Desk: Apart from just football, the FIFA World Cup means many things. It is the time for celebrations, parties, glasses of beer, wearing jerseys, fancy costumes, and face paintings in support of your favourite teams and soccer icons.

However, if you wish to watch the matches from stadiums in Qatar this year you have to limit your celebrations to a certain level and enjoy with a moderation.

Ahead of the of the Qatar World Cup scheduled to begin from 20th November, the FIFA organizers have notified the fans on their way to the grand event to adhere to the conservative rules and dress codes of the Qatari land.

According to a report from the Daily Star newspaper, fans will be prohibited from donning revealing or skimpy clothes in the stadiums or while exploring the tourist attractions in Qatar.

This means, they will be prohibited from enjoying matches shirtless, wear sleeveless, or show much of their legs even within the scorching Qatari summer.

Fans not obeying to dress codes, or its local culture could land them behind the bars or even forced to pay heavy fines.

Qatari officials have stated that although they do not expect female fans to follow the Islamic dress code like wearing an Abaya – a type of garment that covers the whole body, however they will be expected to cover their shoulders, abdomen, or knees in stadiums or public places.

Besides, it has also been known that in addition to security personals within and outside the stadiums, around 15,000 cameras enabled with facial recognition technology will also be in place to closely monitor the fans.

This latest notification from Qatar is a first of its kind in the history of this sporting event. It has definitely not been received very positively from the global community who wait for this sporting competition with much anticipation.

Yes, a visitor is always expected to respect the local culture and its people. However, iconic sporting events like this which unites communities can be kept aside from conservative religious codes of attire and allow everyone to enjoy the moment with freedom.
