Gujarat bridge tragedy: 9 apprehended; rescue operation continues
India: The local police in Morbi, Gujarat nabbed nine people in relation to the tragic footbridge collapse that occurred on Sunday killing at least 134 people.
According to the media reports, the apprehended individuals include members from the company that was managing the maintenance of the bridge, including nine other persons responsible for the same.
A criminal lawsuit has also been filed against the company named Oreva in relation to the incident.
Besides, the state government of Gujarat have also formed an investigative committee to inquire the reason behind the collapse.
Rescue operations are continuing in the spot of the incident, with the teams of Indian Army, National and State Disaster Relief Force in action and searching for survivors.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also scheduled to visit the site on Tuesday according to reports.
On Sunday, a footbridge over the Machchhu river which had recently opened for visitors after renovation had collapsed killing over 134 people, with more feared to be dead.
