Halloween celebrations turn hell in South Korea

Global Desk: At least 151 people were killed and over 82 injured during a Halloween celebration in the South Korea’s capital city Seoul on Saturday.

According to reports from the international media, the incident took place after a large crowd tried to congregate in a narrow lane where a Halloween celebration was taking place. People tried to reach the spot after getting to know about the participation of a celebrity in the event.

According to a report from Reuters, the road which comprised of several pubs, hotels and restaurants saw ten times more crowd than it could accommodate which led to the stampede.

The local authorities have stated that the victims of the incident – which mostly comprised of women and teenagers – were taken to nearby hospitals and gyms for treatment and identification.

As per a report from Sky News, around 100, 000 people have been estimated to be present during the Halloween event. Besides, the death toll is expected to rise further.

Over 1700 emergency workers were employed in the spot to carry out rescue operation and control the situation.

The actual reason that led to this gruesome incident is being investigated by the local authorities.

Meanwhile, the South Korean government has declared a national period of mourning over the tragedy.
