National Desk: On Thursday, Mallikarjun Kharge officially took charge as the new chief of the struggling Congress Party.
Along with the Gandhi family, several Congress leaders were present in the felicitation occasion of the new party president.
After passing on the baton, former party supremo Sonia Gandhi said that she felt a sense of relief from the burden of responsibility she had to handle over the years in managing the grand old party.
In the very first address to the party members, Kharge urged the youths of the country to join the Congress party.
He also threw pot shorts at the government and said that the democracy in this country which was founded by the Congress is being mishandled today.
He also accused the ruling party of choosing Godse over Gandhi and disrespecting the constitution of Ambedker.
Further, he also said that Congress under his leadership will not allow the present government to divide the country through divisive politics, deceit, and hatred.
Mallikarjun Kharge, who hails from Karnataka easily won over Shashi Tharoor to become the first non-Gandhi president of the party after many years.
