Carlos Alcaraz, Iga Swiatek crowned US Open champs
Sports Desk: Spanish rookie Carlos Alcaraz defeated Norwegian Casper Ruud to win the maiden US Open men’s singles title held in New York.
In a four-set thriller 19-year-old Alcaraz outshined Ruud with the final score of 4-6, 6-2, 6(1)-7(7), 3-6 which made him the youngest grand slam winner after his fellow countryman and 22 grand slam title holder Rafael Nadal.
This was the first grand slam experience of his live for young Carlos Alcaraz. Along with the title, Carlos he has also moved up to the pole position of the ATP rankings and become the youngest number one in the world.
Meanwhile, Ruud has lost his second consecutive grand slam final within a year after losing the French Open final to Rafael Nadal earlier this year.
Alternatively, in the women’s singles finals Polish star and world number one Iga Swiatek have won her second grand slam title of the year. Swiatek outplayed Ons Jabeur in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 6(7)-6(5).
