Liz Truss to be UK’s next Prime Minister

Global Desk: Liz Truss has been elected as the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and the leader of the Conservative Party.

The months long election campaign to choose the successor of Prime Minister Boris Johnson has finally ended with the former foreign secretary Truss and finance minister Rishi Sunak being the final two contenders.

Truss received around 81, 326 votes, while Sunak managed to get 60, 399 votes. Truss got a vote share of around 47 per cent.

All Conservative Party members across the country took part in the elections through online and postal voting.

By expressing her honour after getting elected as the Conservative Leader, Truss thanked the supporters for putting their trust on her to lead this great country.

She also stated that she would take ‘bold actions’ the nation through these difficult times by growing its economy and unleash the full potential of UK.

Regarding the post Covid cost of living crisis in the country just couple of days before the results, Truss had also said that she would take ‘decisive actions’ to assure that families and business owners can pass through this winter.

Meanwhile, Rishi Sunak has also thanked his voters and said that ‘Conservatives are one family’ and urged everyone to unite behind the new Prime Minister Liz Truss when the nation is passing through a very difficult time.

Liz Truss will officially take over as the Prime Minister after a ceremonial visit to the head of the monarch Queen Elizabeth II on Tuesday.

She would be the third lady Prime Minister of the UK after Margaret Thatcher and Theresa May.
