Heartbreak for Nadal at the US Open
Sports Desk: Rafael Nadal was knocked out of US Open after he was defeated by local favourite Frances Tiafoe on Monday.
The fourth-round match which lasted for 3 hours, and 34 minutes saw Nadal win only one set and the final score ended with 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.
With this the 22-time grand slam champion has failed to qualify to the quarter finals of the US Open. He was considered as one of the favourites to win the title in the absence of Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev who has already been eliminated in the hands of Nick Kyrgios.
After the end of is US Open campaign, Nadal thanked his fans through his social media accounts and said that he hopes to come back again next year.
After making a comeback to professional tennis, Rafael Nadal, who has been enduring a complicated foot injury for some years now, has won two grand slams earlier this year to become the winner of 22 grand slam titles.
This would be the first time when none among the big three of men’s tennis or Serena Williams will feature in the quarter finals of a grand slam after many years.
