Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi jailed for election fraud in Myanmar

Global Desk: Already imprisoned democratic leader and Nobel Prize Winner Aung San Suu Kyi has been sentenced to another three years behind the bars by a court in the military ruled Myanmar.

According to reports from the international media, she has been convicted of corruption in the form of electoral scam during the national elections held in 2020 where her party the National League for Democracy emerged winner with a thumping majority.

Along with the imprisonment Aung San Suu Kyi has also been sentenced with hard labour. However, there are no clear reports as to what hard labour she would have to engage in.

The former leader, who has already been serving a 17-year sentence after the military took over the democratic government led by her has however denied the charges.
