Indian origin Rishi Sunak set to run for the Prime Minister of Britain

Global Desk: Rishi Sunak is set to run for the new Prime Minister of Britain and the leader of the Conservative Party.

Sunak is an Indian origin politician who served as the Chancellor of the Exchequer in the present government. He officially announced his decision through his social media accounts on Friday where he posted a short audio-visual to propose his candidature for the top post.

Starting the video by introducing his parents who came from India and settled in Southampton, Sunak said that Britain gave chances to millions like his family to live their dream and hope for a better future.

He also said that he had joined politics because he wanted everyone like him to have the same opportunity in this country and give everyone’s children a better future.

Sunak also said that Britain is face-to-face with one of the serious challenges in its history which requires serious confrontation with honesty and determination.

By citing that he ran the toughest department in the government during the nightmare of Covid crisis, Sunak said that he wants to lead Britain in the right direction.

Furthermore, Sunak also asserted that he had spent his career in bringing people together and in the coming days he would set out a vison for a better future for the country which have had enough of divisions.

His announcement came just a day after the present Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced his resignation from the Conservative Party leadership.

Born in Southampton, 42-year-old Rishi Sunak is a member of the parliament from Richmond, England. He is a son of Indian parents who immigrated to England from East Africa.

His Indian wife Akshata Murty is a fashion designer and the daughter of Indian billionaire businessman Narayana Murthy who is the founder of the IT company Infosys. .

Sunak is an MBA from Stanford University and also studied Humanities and Economics at Lincoln College, Oxford. Prior to his political career, Sunak worked in the banking and investment sector.

If he gets elected for the post than Sunak would be the first Indian origin Prime Minister of Britain.
