Nadal withdraws from Wimbledon semi-finals due to abdomen injury

Sports Desk: World number 4 Rafael Nadal have pulled out from the semi finals of the Wimbledon championship due to a abdomen injury.

Nadal announced about his decision through a media briefing at the Wimbledon. Besides, it was also confirmed by the officials of the organizers through its official social media platforms.

“We are sad to see it end this way, @RafaelNadal…Thank you for another year of unforgettable at The Championships,” this was stated in the official Twitter account of the Wimbledon.

Alternatively, according to a report form Daily Express Nadal suffered a tear in the abdomen muscle after getting injured in the quarter final match against Taylor Fritz where he defeated the American in the tie-breaker in the final set after losing the opening and the third set.

He also stated that he had the potential to win the tournament, however he took the decision out of self-respect so that he can keep competing in the coming months of the season.

As a result of this, his opponent Nick Kyrgios have booked a place at the finals, where he would most probably face Novak Djokovic or Cameron Norrie.

Following the withdrawal, the 22 time grand slam winner will also miss the opportunity to compete at the Calendar Grand Slam for the very first occasion in his career, after winning the Australian Open and French Open earlier this year.
