Former Japanese PM Shinzo Abe shot dead during an election rally

Global Desk: Shinzo Abe – the former Prime Minister of Japan – have passed away after he was shot during an election rally in Nara, Japan on Friday.

According to reports, Abe was giving a speech at an election rally when a gunman fired shots at Abe. The former Prime Minister immediately collapsed after being hit by a bullet.

Abe received emergency treatment on the spot of the incident before being rushed to the hospital.

Recent updates from the Japanese media states that he was shot around his upper part of the body and died in hospital after remining critical for sometime.

The gunman has been apprehended by the police for attempted murder. He has been identified as Yamagami Tetsuya.

Leaders across the world have condemned this reprehensible attack on Abe and his passing away.

67-year-old Abe was the longest serving Prime Minister of Japan. He represented the Liberal Democratic Party and served as the Prime Minister twice from 2006 to 2007 and again from 2012 to 2020.
