Eknath Shinde wins trust vote in Maharashtra

National Desk: On Monday, the new government in Maharashtra led by Shiv Sena rebel leader Eknath Shinde won the trust vote in the state parliament.

Chief Minister Shinde’s Shiv Sena along with the Bharatya Janata Party secured 164 votes in comparison to opposition’s 99 votes.

Shinde received the support of 39 Shiv Sena MLAs who secede from the Uddhav Thackeray’s Maharashtra Vikash Aghadi government jointly formed by Shiv Sena, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), and Congress.

According to reports another Shiv Sena MLA from the Thackeray’s Shiv Sena has joined the Shinde faction and offered support to the NDA in the latest floor test.

After winning the trust vote and strengthening its hold in the parliament, the Shinde and his adherents would endeavour to claim the brand name of Shiv Sena and the party symbol. Concurrently, he would also try to oust the Thackeray family from the party.

In the meantime, the MVA alliance which is the new opposition now has elected its former Deputy Chief Minister from NCP Ajit Pawar as the leader of opposition.
