Abortion rights killed in United States, Supreme Court makes controversial anti-abortion judgement

Global Desk: On Friday, the Supreme Court in the US nullified the historical law named Roe vs Wade which had been legalizing abortion among women in the United States.

The revocation of the same would mean that women in America would no more be able to take their own decisions regarding their health and body when it comes to abortion.

The controversial ruling of the supreme court has made abortion illegal in the country with immediate effect in many states mostly ruled by the Republicans.

People across different sections have criticized this latest ruling of the court. US president Joe Biden said that “it is a said day for the country” as the Supreme Court has “taken away the constitutional right of the American people.”

Similarly, former US President Barak Obama also expressed his disappointment and said that the decision of the court is “wrong” and it is an attack on the “essential freedoms of millions of Americans”.

The speaker of the United States House Nancy Pelosi stated that “women’s fundamental health decisions” are their own and this new ruling by the “Republican controlled” Supreme Court have ripped away women’s rights on their “reproductive health decisions”.

This new ruling has also triggered international condemnation. UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson have termed this as “a big step backwards”. He also added that he has always believed in women’s right to make their own choices.

Moreover, French President Emmanuel Macron said that the Supreme Court in the US has undermined the liberties of women with this decision. He also said that “abortion is the fundamental right of all women” and it must be protected.

This new ruling has led to mass protests in the United States and other countries like the UK, which is likely to escalate further in the coming days. US House Representative and activist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in a social media post said that overturning this law “will never make them go away”. She also added that “we need to be in the streets now more than ever”.

Roe vs Wade is a major court case in the United States which ran for a number of years and ended in 1973. It ended with the ruling that the regulation from the state in regard to abortion was illegal, and woman have the right to take their own decisions regarding abortion and childbirth.
