Guwahati: The very famous Ambubachi Mela at the Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati, Assam begin on Thursday, 23rd June.
This religious carnival which takes place once in a year during the time of monsoon has been organized this time after a break of two years due to the pandemic.
Although, in view of the ongoing flood crisis around the state of Assam the usual fanfare and extravagance in the form of decorations have been kept to the minimum. Unlike other years, not many food stalls and private rest camps were seen on the road below the Nilachal Hills and in the vicinity of the temple.
Adequate security, flooding and lodging arrangements have been made by the state government for the devotees in a number of locations starting from Fancy Bazar to Bhootnath area of the city.
Thousands of devotees and tourists from around the country and the world have arrived in the city to take the blessing of Goddess Kamakhya who is known as the goddess of shakti and fulfilment of desire.
Kamakhya Temple is believed to be one of the most powerful shakti sites according to Hindu scriptures like the Kalika Purana. It is also one of the 51 shakti peeths in the world. It is also famously known as the hub of tantra and black magic.
The time of Ambubachi is regarded to be the most significant duration for the Goddess and the Kamakhya Temple. During this time, it is believed that Goddess Kamakhya goes through her annual menstrual period. As a result, the doors of the temple remains closed for four days. On the 5th day the devotees eagerly wait to seek the blessings of the Goddess when the door finally reopens again.
