Serena Williams announces comeback, set to play at the Wimbledon 2022

Sports Desk: The 23-time grand slam winner Serena Williams is set to return to the tennis court. On Tuesday, Williams revealed about her participation in the upcoming Wimbledon Championships.

She posted a picture of her foot with a white sneaker on grass and wrote that she is ready to return to the grass court this Wimbledon. “SW and SW19. It’s a date. 2022, see you there,” she wrote on Instagram.

According to reports, Williams will be receiving a wild card entry into the tournament. Although, the tournament authorities had earlier said nothing about her participation while revealing the initial list of players for this year.

Therefore, William’s latest announcement has come as a sudden surprise for the tennis fans. Meanwhile, it has also crushed the speculations of her permanent retirement from the court.

The very last time she was seen in action in the championships was twelve months back where she was retired hurt in a match against Aliaksandra Sasnovich. Besides, in 2018 and 2019, she had lost the final matches to Angelique Kerber and Simona Halep after making a return from a maternity break in 2017.

Serena Williams, who started her professional tennis career at the age of 16 was last crowned as a Wimbledon women’s singles champion in 2016. With this return, she will be eying to equal the record of 24 grand slams set by Margaret Court.
