World Bicycle Day: India launches a nationwide bicycle rally

Lifestyle Desk: The World Bicycle Day is being observed across the globe on Friday. To mark the occasion, the Indian Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Thakur flagged off a countrywide bicycle rally event in the national capital New Delhi.

During this, around 750 cyclists along with the union minister took part in a 7.5 km cycle rally titled “Fit India Freedom Rider Cycle Rally” from the Major Dhyan Chand Stadium in the city.

The main objective of this rally, which will last till the 10th of June, is to promote health and fitness and encourage everyone to use bicycle as a form of healthier and environmentally friendlier form of transportation.

In addition to Thakur, the Cabinet Minister of Law and Justice Kiren Rijiju also took part in the rally.

By encouraging people of the nation to take up cycling in their daily lifestyle, Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted a vintage picture of Mahatma Gandhi riding a bicycle and said that there is no better inspiration than Gandhi when it comes to leading a sustainable and healthier lifestyle.

Similarly, the president of BJP Jagat Prakash Nadda stated that people should integrate cycling in their lives because it is one of the most reliable and sustainable modes of transportation that also allows us to maintain an active lifestyle.

Likewise, the United Nations also promoted biking among the global community on its social media platforms by educating people about its benefits on health and environment.
