Nadal outshines Djokovic in the French Open quarter finals

Sports Desk: On Wednesday, Rafael Nadal beat the current world number one Novak Djokovic in the quarter finals of the ongoing French Open tennis tournament.

The much-anticipated match between the two titans of the game was played for hours, which had to be finally decided through a tie breaker in the fourth set.

Nadal, who is popularly known as the ‘King of clay’ for his indomitable performance over the years at the Ronald Garros made a roaring start at the match by outplaying Djokovic in the first set with a score of 6-2.

Although, resilient Djokovic did make a comeback in the second set, however the third set was a repetition of the first where Nadal again defeated him with a score of 6-2.

Despite this, the Serbian who has set an example of some of the greatest comebacks in the recent years did not lose his resolve and engaged in a neck-to-neck challenge with Nadal.

As a result, both the greats tied-up with 6 points at the fourth set, where Nadal again managed to do the better of Djokovic in the tie-breaker to win the 7th point.

With this victory, Nadal will be playing Alexander Zverev in the semi finals on 3rd of June.

Notably, the Spaniard is competing for his thirteenth French Open title. Besides, winning the title will put him another step ahead of his compatriots Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic in winning the highest grand slam titles in the history of the sport.

So far Nadal has won 21 grand slam titles, with his last victory coming at he Australian Open.
