Indian badminton team wins its maiden Thomas Cup gold

Sports Desk: The men’s badminton team of India won their maiden Thomas Cup gold medal held in Bangkok on Sunday.

India defeated the incumbent and the 14-time champions Indonesia in the final match with the score of 3-0.

The match began with the win of the young Lakshya Sen who outclassed the Tokyo bronze medallist Anthony Ginting by 8-21, 21-17, 21-16.

This was followed by the victory in the doubles match, where Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty beat Mohammad Ahsan and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo by 18-21, 23-21, 21-19.

The faith of the match was finally sealed by Kidambi Srikanth after he defeated Jonathan Christie in straight sets with the score of 21-15, 23-21.

With this India has created history by winning this coveted Badminton tournament for the first time ever.

To congratulate the team members for this historic moment, Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with the team members through a telephonic conversation after the match and said that the nation is proud of them.

In a social media post he further said that this victory will motivate many upcoming sportspersons in the country.

The entire sports fraternity in India also showered their praises and greetings for this heroic performance from the Indian shuttlers.
