Sports Desk: On Sunday, Liverpool FC won the Emirates FA Cup after defeating Chelsea in the penalty shootout in the Wembley Stadium in London.
The final match which ended with a goalless draw after the stoppage time, headed for an extra time’s play. After both the teams were unsuccessful in scoring a goal, the match had to be finally decided through a penalty shootout.
Finally, in the penalty kicks, Jurgen Klopp managed Liverpool got the better of Chelsea after the later missed a goal at the seventh position and Liverpool’s Kostas Tsimikas did the finishing job for his team by scoring the final goal.
With this, the Merseyside club have won this trophy for the first time since 2006, taking their FA Cup trophies to eight in total.
Following the victory, Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson, who has become one of the most successful skippers of the club, stated that the determination of the team was unbelievable in the match.
“This team…The determination of these lads was unbelievable today. Happy skipper!!!”
British Royal Prince Williams, who was also present at the presentation ceremony of the trophy at the Wembley also congratulated Liverpool and expressed his commiserations to Chelsea.
“Congratulations @liverpoolfc on being crowned 2022 Men’s FA Cup champions! Very well deserved after a long journey and commiserations to @chelseafc, you showed real fight for the full 120 minutes and more,” he said this on Instagram.
This has been one of the best seasons for Liverpool with two consecutive trophies so far. Earlier, they had also defeated Chelsea in the final match of the English Football League Cup (Carabao Cup) in April. Alternatively, they are also the favourites in Europe this year and have a match lined up against the Real Madrid in the finals of the UEFA Champions League.
Besides, on Wednesday, they will be back in action against Southampton in the Premier League, where they are placed at the second spot behind the Manchester City.
