Emmanuel Macron re-elected as France’s President, he vows to unite everyone

Global Desk: Emmanuel Macron is set to lead France once again. On Monday, Macron was re-elected as the President of France after the results of the presidential elections that took place on Sunday were announced.

Macron, who belongs to the La Republique En Marche! party defeated Marine Li Pen from the far-right party named National Rally.

According to a report from the Agence France Press news agency, Macron received around 18,779,641 votes in contrast to Li Pen’s 13,297,760 votes.

As per the results published by its Interior Ministry, Macron got around 58.54 per cent votes in aggregate. Conversely, Li Pen managed to grab around 41.46 per cent votes only.

Ironically, around 13,656, 109 voters remained absent from voting.

Following the declaration of the results, Macron gave a victory speech at Paris’ Champ de Mars and thanked the people of his country.

In his speech, he said that he would strive to unite everyone in France which has been divided between different political ideologies.

Further, he also stated that from now on he would no longer be a candidate of one group, but the president of all.

Many of his overjoyed supporters congregated in different parts of France including at the famous Eiffel Tower to celebrate his victory.

Leaders across the word also congratulated Macron for his triumph. Along with his good wishes, the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that he looks forward to working together towards strengthening the strategic partnership between both the countries.

Likewise, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson stated that France is one of the closest partners of the United Kingdom, and he looks forward to working together on issues that are vital to both the nations.

US President Joe Biden also wished him and asserted that US would look forward for close cooperation in defending democracy, climate change, and in support of the the war-torn Ukraine.

Emmanuel Macron has been serving as the President of France since 2017. With this victory, he has become the first incumbent leader in last 20 years to be re-elected as the president for a second term.
