Guwahati: Masuma Begum, who is the only winning candidate from the Aam Admi Party (AAP) in the Guwahati Municipality Corporation (GMC) elections has thanked the voters for supporting her candidature and her party.
In a statement to the media shared in the official Facebook page AAP Assam, Begum said that she will fulfil the promises made to the people during the election campaign and arrange to provide 20,000 litre of water each month to every household of the ward until the water pipelines of the GMC are fully fixed.
She also thanked the voters for giving her the opportunity to work and said she would give her best to fulfil the aspirations of the people.
She further stated that she will not show arrogance like other parties and allow people to know her through her work.
Masuma Begum won from the ward number 42 of the Guwahati Municipal Council. She defeated the alliance candidate jointly fielded by BJP and AGP.
With Begum’s victory, the AAP managed to make inroads in Assam’s politics and take the first step to become one of the key opposition units in the state other than the Congress.
After the declaration of the results, the party workers of AAP engaged in victory celebration in its office in Guwahati.
