Guwahati, 17 April, 2022: Former party chief of the Indian National Congress in Assam Ripun Bora joined the All India Trinamool Congress on Sunday.
Bora officially joined the Mamata Banerjee led party in Guwahati in the presence of TMC’s national general secretary and Mamata Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee.
In a statement in social media regarding his latest move, Bora said that he is starting his new political journey.
Besides, he also shared his official resignation letter to the Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
In this he stated that he is resigning from the Congress due to the disunity among the party leaders within the state.
He said that instead of fighting the BJP “the leaders of the grand old congress party at different levels are fighting eachother for their vested interest”.
He further added that this has given the ruling party enough opportunity to grow in every part of the country.
In response to Ripun Bora’s inclusion in the party, TMC through its social media channels stated that it is a matter of immense joy to welcome Ripun Bora in TMC family.
Likewise, Abhishek Banerjee also took to social media and extended his good wishes to Bora.
“We are extremely pleased to have you onboard and look forward to working together for the well-being of our people!”, he said.
Having been associated with the Congress since 1976, Ripun Bora is considered to be a highly experienced politician. As a congress leader, he handled multiple portfolios and served as the Education Minister, Minister of panchayat and Rural Development, President of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee and as a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha.
His resignation from the Congress has come soon after he failed to get elected as an MP at the Rajya Sabha in the recently held Rajya Sabha elections in Assam.
