Global Desk: Shehbaz Sharif has been elected as the new Prime Minister of Pakistan. Sharif was elected as the Prime Minister after former Imran Khan lost the no-trust motion vote in the parliament.

Sharif is the brother of the former prime minister of the country Nawz Sharif.

During his political career, he has been the Chief Minister of Pakistan’s Punjab multiple times. Besides, he has also served as the leader of opposition in the National Assembly from the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N).

Soon after he was elected as the Prime Minister, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his congratulations and said that India desires peace, stability and end of terror in the region.

“Congratulations to H. E. Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on his election as the Prime Minister of Pakistan. India desires peace and stability in a region free of terror, so that we can focus on our development challenges and ensure the well-being and prosperity of our people,” he said.

Likewise, Sharif stated that Pakistan also wants good relations with India, however ‘sustainable peace’ cannot be possible without solving the Kashmir issue.

Sharif has been elected as the 23rd prime Minister of Pakistan.

Notably, no prime minister in the country has ever completed a five year term in the office.
