Entertainment Desk: Hollywood actor Will Smith has been banned by the Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences from attending any of its events for ten years.

He has been banned due to his inappropriate action at the 94th Academy Award ceremony where he slapped comedian Chris Rock onstage.

This was informed by the president of the Academy David Rubin and its CEO Dawn Hudson on Saturday.

In an official press release they said that Smith will be prohibited from virtually or physically attending any Academy event for a period of ten years.

Further, the Academy has also expressed its apologies for not adequately addressing the situation after the incident.

Moreover, comedian Chris Rock has also been thanked for reacting with equanimity in response to the humiliation.

Soon after the announcement from the Academy, Will Smith in response said that he accepts and respects the decision.

“I accept and respect the Academy’s decision”, he said.

Will Smith had won the award for best actor in the 94th Academy Awards for his performance in King Richard.

The latest announcement does not however bar Smith form getting nominated for his work or winning awards in the future.
