Entertainment Desk: Singer and songwriter Ed Sheeran has won a copyright lawsuit in relation to his popular song ‘Shape of you’.
The case was filed by Sam Chokri, who is a British electronic music artist. He claimed that Ed Sheeran had composed the tune of ‘Shape of you’ from his song ‘Oh why’.
According to reports, Sheeran fought this four-year long battle in a high court in the United Kingdom, where he defended the allegations and denied any breach of copyright laws.
On Wednesday, the court finally concluded that the musician is not guilty of any plagiarism.
Following the verdict, Sheeran posted a video on his social media and stated that copyright claims in a hope of cheaper settlement than taking it to the court has become a new culture today.
He also said that the claims were ‘baseless’ and he always acknowledged whoever contributed to his projects.
Ed Sheeran’s ‘Shape of you’, which was released in January 2016 was the most popular and highest selling solo in the United Kingdom that year. It also became globally very popular and still continues to be one of his most well-known songs.
