NASA prepares to send the first woman to the Moon
Global Desk, 19 March, 2022: It has been years since the first man landed on the moon. However, this time around, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) wants to script history and send the first women to the Moon.
Through its new human spacecraft program named Artemis, the premier space agency is set to send the first woman and the first person of colour to the lunar surface by the year 2025. It will use its Space Launch System launch vehicle (SLS) for this purpose, which is being developed by NASA since 2011.
The preparation of the same has already begun and NASA is readying itself to transform this into a realty.
As a form of rehearsal, NASA would be sending an uncrewed mission to the Moon in order to evaluate its success.
According to a report from the BBC, on Friday, the SLS vehicle was placed at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, United States to conduct an initial test.
The successful completion of the same would allow NASA to send an uncrewed mission to the moon as a form of dummy test.
Likewise, the success of the uncrewed mission would mean that the spacecraft is ready for the final mission and lead the way for humans’ voyage to the Moon again.
According to a statement by the NASA’s administrator Bill Nelson, through this mission “humanity will soon embark on a new era of exploration….and demonstrate NASA’s commitment and capacity to extend humanity’s presence on the Moon.”
