Business Desk, 09 March, 2022: Companies across the world continues to financially assault the Russian federation. In view of the ongoing crisis in Ukraine, top brands like Starbucks, McDonald’s, and Coca-Cola have now decided to close down their operations in the country.
According to a statement by Chris Kempczinski – the CEO of McDonald’s – the company has categorically condemned the aggression and violence meted out at the people of Ukraine by the Putin led Russian government, that has led to a massive human suffering.
In an official email to its employs – which is also available in its website – Kempczinski informed that in consultation with the chairman and the board of directors, the fast food company has come into conclusion that it will temporarily shut down all its outlets and operations in Russia.
Although, in view of the inconvenience it might create to its 62,000 employees in the country, McDonald’s will however continue to pay their salaries on time, Kempczinski added.
Additionally, McDonald’s will also continue its corporate social activities by aligning with local hospitals and deliver humanitarian support across the country.
In the same way, Starbucks, which has one of the largest coffeehouse chains in the world has also denounced the horrific attack on Ukraine.
The company has said that after closely watching the tragic events unfold in Ukraine, the company and its licenced partners have agreed to halt all its operations in Russia with immediate effect.
This was informed by its CEO Kevin Johnson in an official letter to all its partners.
In an earlier email, Johnson had also said that its company’s culture and values does not allow it to be mere ‘bystanders’ during any such anti-human crisis. Further, he also said that that the company plans to donate all its royalties from their business operations in Russia as a relief fund for the people of Ukraine.
Currently, Starbucks does not have any cafes in Ukraine. However, it has around 130 stores in Russia which it jointly owns with its partners.
Likewise, popular soft drinks and beverage brand Coca-Cola has also taken a similar move and decided to temporarily close down in Russia.
