International Women’s Day observed across the world, India presents ‘Nari Shakti Puraskar’ to 29 women achievers
National Desk, 08 March, 2022: International Women’s Day was observed across India and world on Tuesday. Prominent personalities, including political leaders extended their greetings on this special day dedicated to the empowerment and equality of women.
President Ram Nath Kovid marked this special day by presenting the Nari Shakti Purashkar from the Government of India for the year 2020-2021. The function of the same was held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday. According to a press release, 29 women from diverse sectors were honoured with the award for their exemplary contribution within their respective fields.
Additionally, President Kovid also offered his good wishes through social media and said “Greetings on the International Women’s Day! Women are making exemplary contributions in all walks of life. Let us recommit ourselves to ensure their safety and dignity and to provide opportunities to each of them to pursue their dreams and aspirations.”
Similarly, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also extended his greetings and saluted the spirit and accomplishments of women in the country.
“Greetings on International Women’s Day! We salute the spirit and accomplishments of our Nari Shakti. As I’d said a few days ago, I’m signing off. Through the day, seven women achievers will share their life journeys and perhaps interact with you through my social media accounts,” he said.
The United Nations in its official twitter account sated that “We need to turn the clock forward on women’s rights. The time is now.”
Besides, the UN also asked the global community to stand in solidarity with the women in Ukraine who are fighting for their country at this time of crisis.
International Women’s Day is celebrated on 8th of March every year. It is a special day to honour the socio-economic, cultural and political achievements; including the freedom and equality of women within the social fabric.
