Regional Desk: Home Minister of India Amit Shah has stated that all problems in relation to insurgency in Manipur will be fixed if the Bharatya Janata Party (BJP) is given another mandate of five years by the people of the state.

Shah said this while addressing an election campaign rally in the Devi Mandop Lampak situated in the Thoubal district of Manipur.

The home minister also said that BJP has done a lot for the development of Manipur during the last fivers, and if it forms the government again than it will sit for talks with the insurgent groups and help bring peace in the state.

Citing the examples of the Bodoland and Karbi issues in Assam, Shah said that after BJP came to power in the north eastern region, many such problems have been resolved through talks.

Further, he also pledged to tackle the problem of drug syndicate in the state. He said that BJP would make Manipur a drug-free state in the next five years.

Taking pot-shots at the opposition, Shah also said that during the Congress rule the life within the state was often disrupted by regular bandhs and blockades. However, there has not been a single bandh after BJP government led by Chief Minister N Biren Singh came to power.

The phase one of the Manipur assembly elections saw a record turnout of around 78 per cent voters. The second and final phase of the polls is scheduled to take place on 5th of March.
