India’s ‘Disco king’ and legendary musician Bappi Lahiri dies at 69

Entertainment Desk: On Tuesday, legendary singer and music composer Bappi Lahiri passed away in Mumbai.

Lahiri, who is known as the disco king of the Indian music industry was 69 when he took his final breath in Mumbai’s City Care Hospital situated in Juhu.

According to reports, he had been unwell for a long time before he was admitted to hospital. The cause of his death has been said to be Obstructive Sleep Apnea.

Following his demise, the family members of Lahiri released an official statement through which they expressed their grief and sought love and blessings for his soul. They also said that his last rites would be performed in the city’s Vile Parle crematorium after the arrival of his son Bappa from the United States.

After the news of his passing away, the Indian film industry, including individuals from all walks of life poured tributes to the legendry musician. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his condolences in social media and stated that Lahiri’s lively nature will be missed. He also said that that Lahiri’s songs expressed diverse emotions and people from all generations could relate to it.

Lahiri was famously known for introducing disco style music in the Indian film songs. Born in West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri, Lahiri also gave his voice and music for a number of Bangla film songs.

Some of his most popular songs include “Yaad aa raha hai tera pyaar”, “Disco dancer”, “Yaar bina chain kahan re”, among others.

His death has been regarded as an invaluable loss for music lovers and the Indian film industry.
