Former Union Law Minister Ashwani Kumar quits Congress ahead of Punjab Elections
On Tuesday, senior Congress leader and the former union minister of law Ashwani Kumar has quit the Congress party.
In a letter to the party president Sonia Gandhi, he stated that he took this decision after thoughtful consideration. He also said that he wishes to work for larger national causes outside the party fold now.
Kumar’s association as a proactive member of the party is around 46 years old.
During this, he was in charge of multiple departments including the Union Law Ministry, Union Minister of State for the department of Industrial Policy and Promotion.
As a public representative, he represented the state of Punjab in the upper house. His exit from the party just ahead of the elections in Punjab does not bode well for the grand old party.
